The Republic’s Florence Masebe On Being Shot At 40 Times: “I Didn’t Die”
Our scars are a constant reminder of what we have been through. Florence Masebe is a celebrity who has been through a lot but has always come out on top.
It’s been 21 years since the veteran actress escaped a shooting that nearly killed her. Florence underwent several operations to remove bullets and repair wounds after her assailant fired six to eight rounds at her car outside her Bramley Park home in Sandton on August 18.

Florence, who was an actress on Generations at the time, was allegedly on a hit list that included Sello Maake ka Ncube, according to reports at the time. Florence’s four-year-old daughter witnessed the horrific incident despite her mother’s pain and fear.
Florence is thankful to God for keeping her alive as she celebrates 23 years since the incident.
She wrote: “She bothered nobody… They shot her and disappeared into thin air. They were so sure… They didn’t realise that this was a rare lioness. All those bullets pumped into her body and this young woman survived. She lived! I live!
