Learners Stripped Naked And Robbed At School Hostel In MP

On 3 August, learners at a school hostel in White River, Mpumalanga, were reportedly robbed of their cellphones and laptop computers.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the provincial spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), revealed that around seven suspects stormed the hostel. The suspects allegedly told the students to undress before searching them and taking their cellphones and laptops.

According to Mohlala, the stolen goods were loaded into the hostel owner’s Toyota Avanza. The SAPS and local security firms both responded to the incident.

“On their arrival, unfortunately, the suspects had already fled the scene, using the Toyota Avanza as the gateway car,” said Mohlala.

The security cluster immediately launched a search. The empty vehicle was discovered about a half-hour later on Spionkop Road, just outside White River.

Mpumalanga Provincial SAPS Commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela praised the security companies and SAPS for their cooperation. Manamela urged people not to buy stolen goods because they would be charged for possessing suspected stolen property.

SAPS has since requested that anyone with information on the case call Crime Stoppers at 08600 10111. Members of the community who have information to share can do so through the MySAPS App. Callers have the option of remaining anonymous.
