Health MEC Ramathuba Reacts Amid Viral Clip: “I Am Not Xenophobic, Your President Is Not Assisting”
Phophi Ramathuba, MEC for Health in Limpopo, has responded to outrage over her treatment of a patient in a public hospital.
Ramathuba informed the patient, an undocumented foreign national, that the influx of Zimbabweans is putting a strain on the country’s health-care system.

There have been mixed reactions on social media. Some users praised her, while others accused her of harboring anti-foreigner sentiments. Responding to the the backlash the MEC said during an eNCA: “I work with a lot of our African nationals, if you go and check us the work speaks for itself on Africa day we celebrated.
“I am the one who celebrated our African nationals who some of them are professional doctors, all who are contributing who are here in the country legally, who are contributing towards building our country but of course I must indicate to say we cannot promote wrong things to happen.

“When you are here illegally it is affecting us and as the department we have become a victim of the illegal immigrants in the country. So let me reassure you, I am not xenophobic at all, your president Mnangagwa is not assisting. I am saying this out of frustration because the former minister of health has been raising this issue of billing the country.”
